Getting started
Does Aboki need the internet?
No. Aboki runs a small AI model on the phone itself, so once the model file is on the phone it answers with no internet, no data and no signal. The internet is only used if you choose to download a model, a library pack or an app update.
Is Aboki free?
Yes. There is no subscription, and because every answer is worked out on the phone, questions cost nothing: no data and no airtime.
How do I get the model file without data?
Copy it from a friend’s phone with Xender, Nearby Share or Bluetooth, from an SD card, or from a computer at a school or community centre. Then open Models in Aboki and tap Choose model file.
Why is the first answer slow?
The first time, Aboki has to wake the model up on your phone, which takes about a minute. After that, answers appear a few words at a time while the phone works them out.
Phones and models
Which phones can run Aboki?
Android phones on Android 7 or newer with 3 GB of memory (RAM) or more. Aboki checks your phone and recommends the model that fits.
Which model should I choose?
Aboki Lite (704 MB) for 3 GB phones and everyday questions. Aboki Study (1.0 GB) for school subjects on 4 GB phones. Aboki Pro and Aboki Health (2.3 GB each) need 6 GB. Health is for adults only.
Does Aboki work on iPhone?
Aboki is built Android-first, for the phones most families in Nigeria own. The download on this site is an Android APK.
What are the models inside Aboki?
Open models run on the phone with llama.cpp: Gemma 3 1B, Qwen3 1.7B, Gemma 3 4B and MedGemma 4B.
Homework mode
Is Aboki safe for children?
In homework mode, Aboki only helps with schoolwork, turns away topics that are not for children, never uses the internet, and shows the parent every question their child asked. Settings sit behind a parent PIN.
Will it do my child’s homework for them?
No. It guides with hints and questions, up to three hints, so the child works the answer out. For “what is” questions it explains plainly.
Can my child leave Aboki and open other apps?
Not while Aboki is pinned to the screen. On Android, tap Pin to screen in Parent; unpinning needs your phone’s screen lock. On iPhone, use Guided Access.
Can Aboki read my child’s homework page?
Yes. Take a photo and Aboki reads the printed words on the phone. Handwriting is harder for it. It can also read Word and text files.
Privacy
Where do my questions go?
Nowhere. They are answered and stored on the phone. Aboki has no account, no adverts and no analytics.
Can I delete my chats?
Yes. Press and hold a chat and choose Delete chat. Deleted chats are gone from the phone for good.
Languages and limits
Does Aboki speak Hausa, Yorùbá, Igbo or Pidgin?
The app’s menus and buttons do, in all five languages. The answers are mostly in English for now, because no small model answers well in Hausa, Yorùbá or Igbo yet.
Can I trust Aboki’s health answers?
Treat them as general information. Small models make mistakes. For anything serious, ask a health worker. Aboki Health gives general information for adults only, never a diagnosis.
Does Aboki know the news or today’s prices?
No. Offline means it cannot look things up. It is for explaining and learning, not for current events.
Schools and partners
Can our school use Aboki?
Yes, and we would like to hear from you. Aboki has not been piloted yet, and we are looking for first schools to start small with.
Can we add our own learning material?
Yes. In Library, Make your own pack gives you a template to fill in with your own topics. Aboki reads those notes before answering.
Try it on an Android phone, then talk to us.
Android 7 or newer, 3 GB of memory or more. Install the app, then add a model by downloading it once or copying it from another phone.
